Monthly Favourites | May (Mini reviews)

Since the month of May is ending in a couple of days, I thought I would share with you some beauty products that I've been loving this month. May has definitely been the month of discovering long-lasting make up as I find myself wearing make up for long hours. Sometimes, that can mean having make up on for more than 12 hours, which I never do in the past.

I would just like to add that these products are mentioned in no particular order. I labelled them so you'd know which product I'm referring to.

1) Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Oily/Combination Skin (in 150 Buff and 180 Sand Beige)

This is arguably the best drug store foundation out there currently. It retails for $30.90 SGD. I have this in two shades because the lightest available shade in Singapore, Sand Beige, is one shade too dark for me. This product comes in 20 shades and yet Singapore only has five of them. Sand Beige actually matches my face, but unfortunately, my face is darker than the rest of my body (I know, usually it's the opposite). I ordered Buff, which is one shade lighter, on eBay. Surprisingly, they are very different. I suspect it's because Sand Beige has a later manufacturing date, and we know that Revlon recently reformulated this foundation. I much prefer the reformulated version though. It's just too bad Buff doesn't retail locally. Oh man, I'm rambling. I guess I'll go into detail in a separate post where I'll give a proper review! So, why have I been especially loving this in May? Well, once this foundation sets on your face, I swear it will not budge. It's transfer-resistant so you can blow your nose, wipe your mouth, touch your face and hug someone without getting foundation all over tissues, your fingers or even on someone else's shirt. I'm sure we've all experienced those awkward situations before.

2) Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer (in 01 Fair and 02 Light)

I've had this concealer in Light for awhile now. It retails for $14.90 SGD. I've mainly been putting it only on scars or any other discolouration on my face. Since this concealer is quite thick and feels a bit tacky, I've been very hesitant to use it under my eyes to conceal dark circles because any concealer I've tried at that area creases and settles into fine lines. Basically, my under eyes would look like a mess after 2-3 hours. I'm not sure what went through my mind last week because I actually tried to conceal my dark circles with this and wowww. Why have I not tried it sooner?! This concealer DOESN'T settle into fine lines and it creases minimally! I tried it for two days to make sure. On the second day, I was sold. I immediately went to purchase another one in Fair because I prefer a lighter shade to conceal under my eyes. I think this concealer is my favourite out of all the products I've been loving this month!

Okay, I meant for this post to be short because I intend to do reviews on these products in the future but I can't help rambling. I shall try to be succinct from here onwards.

3) NYX HD Studio Photogenic Finishing Powder

I ordered this product online for $15 SGD. This is a finely-milled silica powder that sets your base make up. I love using this because it keeps my face matte and baby smooth for the longest time (compared to any other loose or pressed powder I've tried)! I don't have large pores but I totally recommend this for those who do because it hides them amazingly for the first couple of hours. I also use this to set my under eye concealers and it definitely helps with blurring fine lines and preventing creases.

4) Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

This retails at Sephora for approximately a little under $50 SGD. That's sooo pricey for a setting spray but it works wonders. My make up looks fresh and lasts a lot longer with this! If you have problems with your foundation breaking up or settling into pores by the end of the day, you will adore this. Be sure to shake it well before spraying or you'll find large droplets on your face. I only use this to set my make up on special occasions because it's very expensive. If you use it sparingly, I think it'll be worth the investment!

5) La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo

Ah finally, a skincare product! It is very important to note that there are two versions of this and I have the European one. I don't remember how much this retails for but I know it's very pricey. Wearing make up for so many hours can take its toll on your skin. Don't get me wrong. None of the products I've mentioned above break me out, but I do see an increased amount of clogged pores on my skin. I can easily get rid of them with a comedone extractor but I'd prefer it if I just keep them at bay. This product serves that purpose perfectly (slowly but surely)! It is made to unclog your pores. I use this every night after a serum and before a moisturizer.

That's it! I hope that I've piqued your interest in some of these products. I think all five of them are especially useful in achieving long-lasting make up or if you wear make up often. See you in my next post!
